I remember the time you worked for George White in Alnwick. You were always really busy but I think you liked the job, Irene. One of the downsides was that the A1 wasn’t as good then and there often seemed to be roadworks. I managed to get up some fridays to have lunch with you... very happy memories. Xxxx

Just watching A Year in Provence with Carol Drinkwater, Irene. She likes Nice just like we do. We had some great times there, usually staying near the Cathedral. The Market was excellent, and you could go back to that Quarter in the evening and have a good meal in a really good atmosphere. Like everyone, we loved walking along the Promenade des Anglais. Xxxx

Just watched a James Martin Programme, Irene, where he was in Naples. He went to Caffe Gambrinus where we were 9 years ago. He was inside relishing the pastries ... just like we did! The 150 year old building looked just as ornate as it did when we were there. He liked the ricotta pastries and those with wild strawberries. I remember we ordered 2 plates of them. Xxxx

We really enjoyed the fancy dress parties we went to. I remember hiring costumes near to the centre of Newcastle. You were Annie Oakley and I was Pavarotti ... to go to Nick’s 50th birthday. We also went to another at the Parkmore Hotel. It was really good to see Paul and Maureen; John and Pauline; Wayne and Chris; Dave and Barbara; and Ken and Sue. Xxx

We were really lucky to have so many great friends, Irene. As well as those we met on holiday there were our colleagues at work. We also had great neighbours like Mark and Vicky and Nick and Caroline. We also had Tom who we have known for over 30 years. We also have Les who has been a great friend for over 10 years. He has done so many jobs for us at Kenton Lane. He even brought the wardrobe there. Xxxx

One of the places we really liked in recent years was Kotor. Once again, the scenery was fantastic. Montenegro can be a magical place. The architecture had more than just echoes of Venice. We always seemed to find a nice restaurant with lovely views. Xxxx
