John (Jack)READof Hurst Crescent, Rawtenstall passed away at the Royal Blackburn Hospital on March 20. He was 91.

Beloved husband to the late Winifred, Jack leaves behind daughter Beverley and her husband John, son Martin and his wife Ann Margrith, three grandchildren, Elliott, Lewis and Caitlin and their partners. He will be sadly missed by all.

Jack worked at David Whitehead and Sons (Textiles) as a spinning manager when he left school, relocating to Kaduna in Nigeria in the 1950s to set up a textile mill there. On his return, he ran Burnley Road Post Office for almost 10 years before taking a job in the Revenue Department at Rossendale Borough Council until his retirement. Jack loved holidays both in his country and abroad and he was a keen walker. His main passion was gardening. He took great pleasure and pride in his garden.

The funeral service will take place on Friday, April 5 at 9.45am from Fred Hamer’s Chapel of Rest conducted by Rev’d Stephen Crook, followed by interment at Rawtenstall Cemetery.

Flowers requested. Funeral director: Dawn Winfield, Fred Hamer Funeral Service, James Street, Rawtenstall, BB4 7NE.
