My Dad, David Silcock, orihginally from the Wirral, passed away on 17th August 2026...96 He mentions Stanley Dutton in some writing and how he poached my Dad to works with him at Barclays Bank in Manchester as an Architect. This my dad writes "one afternoon Stanley Dutton, who I had known from my Liverpool (Unoiversity)days, turned up unannounced in the office and, in effect poached me to work with him in the Manchester architectural office of Barclays Bank. What a significant afternoon that was, as it set in train the course that the rest of my life was to follow! I met Stanley in 1954 when I was in fourth year and as an ex-service man ahead of me, he was finishing his thesis. As we both lived in Wirral, and in the school’s tradition, I was ‘conscripted’ to help him to complete his thesis. This was a traditional and simple process of ‘hatching and scratching’ to help complete thesis drawings of students in their final year. We became close friends and I have him to thank for giving me a mature attitude to Architecture that I have treasured throughout my life. It was sad when in 1960 we parted company."
