It is a privilege to have known Joan. She had empathy, courage and determination, along with an infectious sense of humour. I shall never forget the civilised afternoon tea she entertained me to, in the middle of the ongoing work on the cottage restoration project. I am forever grateful to her for brokering the adoption by myself and my husband Bob of the first additions to our family - two characterful black and white kittens who, like Joan, lived to a good age and were much loved, and greatly missed.
