I was lucky enough to have Mr Buckley teach me history for most of my time in secondary school and I owe him great appreciation for how he helped me grow as an academic but also as a young man.

He was fair but never soft and no student was ever left behind. He inspired classes that wanted to achieve the best they could just to make him proud.

The truth is I never cared for history but I'd have taken an entire school day of history lessons with Mr Buckley just because he inspired the best in me. He was funny, charismatic and witty as many here have reflected but I think the things I remember now are how he was an example to all young people of kindness and integrity.

Hearing the news of his passing is awful and I wish all his family the best navigating life without him. He was a great man and it's so good to see just how many people have shown their love for him and how many people he inspired self-belief in to achieve more than they ever believe they could.

RIP Mr Buckley

Dear John.
We are sitting in beautiful Mojacar, gazing out to sea and thinking of you. Who knew that a year ago when we booked the holiday with Jackie and Shaun that this would be the day you were laid to rest.
We’re thinking about the last time we saw you at Poppy’s party and how we sang our hearts out on the karaoke. It was always good fun to catch up with you and Steven, you were incredibly gregarious and funny and always had a good tale to tell.
Therefore it is with enormous sadness that we raise our glasses to you today. Reading the tributes from your friends, family and students is testament to how much people thought of you. A wonderful teacher, son, husband, brother, cousin, uncle, grandson and friend.
Rest in peace John, taken far too early.
With love always Paula & Gary xxx
