Aunty Kath was not only my favourite Aunty but as a Great Aunty in the absence of my sister, she was our grown - up childrens' Aunty too.
My Mother (Margaret) who died five years ago was her only sister and they were very close all their lives. After my Father, Ieuan died in 1999 Mum bought the house next door but one to Kath and Brian in Llandudno and she spent a lot of time there. I don't know how mum would have coped without their support, love, feeding and taking out and about they did for all those years.
THey all went on many cruises together and visited Paul and Helen in New Zealand. Those holidays were amongst the happiest of memories.
An excellent cook, and baker, the table was always groaning with food when we visited each summer with our children as they were growing up. She took an inordinate interest in our lives, and she very much reminded me of her Mother, who we called Mamgu Llanybyther.
THis is indeed an end of an era. I'm glad some of our family managed to visit her a few times in her care home. SHe still had a twinkle in her eye and would wink mischieviously when I told her to behave herself. :) RIP Aunty Kath. I hope you and all our loved ones who have preceded you to heaven are having a good old chat and drinking tea (or red wine) and eating steak followed by welsh cakes or bara brith.
