Peter DavidHORTONIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Peter David Horton, known as David to his family, friends and patients.
Born in Yorkshire, David grew up in Lincolnshire, trained at Birmingham Medical School, and in 1968 joined the Castle Donington medical practice as a new GP. David spent thirty years caring for his patients in Castle Donington, before taking early retirement to focus on improving his golf game and international travel.
David was a strong believer in public service. Beyond his career in the NHS, he was a founding member of the Castle Donington Rotary Club and also spent a number of years as a trustee for Cope Children's Trust which runs Rainbows Children's Hospice in Loughborough.
David passed away on Monday 27th July 2026, after a long illness, at Coalville Nursing Home, with his wife Margaret by his side holding his hand, and his daughter Nicola.
He was a good man, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
David's funeral service will take place at The Church of St Edward King & Martyr, Castle Donington, on Wednesday 2nd September 2026 at 12.30pm. Friends, family, former colleagues and patients are all welcome.
Following a private burial, with family only, there will be a wake to celebrate David's life at The Castle Inn, 2 High Street, Castle Donington. Again, all who knew David are welcome.
Any donations in lieu of flowers will benefit Rainbows Hospice.
