Such sad news, a decent man who did a lot of good for his family and the people of Long Eaton. It was a privilege to have known him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Paula and his children.
Sending love to you all.

Being a good friend of Roland's son Mark, I have very fond memories of sleepovers at his house.

He was always very warming, kind and gentle. He would always welcome us with drinks, pizza and table tennis in the garden!

A huge Notts County fan and lover of sport! A big loss to the community who will be sadly missed.

They broke the mould when they made Roland. A fantastic friend, a brilliant councillor and most importantly an outstanding family man. Solidarity Roland, thanks for your friendship. Love and huge respect always and wherever

Roland you will be remembered for so many things. Your sense of humour at family gatherings with tales of your DIY skills. The love and kindness towards children. First Jack then your own grandchildren. So respected by the community for your hard work and commitment to them. So sad watching you fade with this terrible illness. We will all miss you immensely Roland. Sleep easy, you deserve a rest 😢♥️

Roland and I grew up together, he was my oldest friend first meeting when I was 4 and he was 3. I remember that meeting as if it were yesterday. We always kept in touch even though I had moved away to East Anglia.
Roland was always fun to be with and had a strong sense of right and wrong, which led him to becoming a councillor.
He remained ‘one of the lads’ and enjoyed meeting every few weeks for a pint and chat with those of us he grew up with, happy to reminisce about many things but mainly football! Roland would always come along with a prepared quiz to test our memory! We all miss those days Roland.
Long Eaton has lost a great advocate. RIP old mate.
