So sorry to hear the news. David was one of the good ones and I had a great couple of years working for him in Foxhill and have an huge bank of memories of him from that time.

I am shocked and truly saddened.
My most heartfelt condolences to you all.
Thinking of you all in this extremely difficult time.
Dave was a special man both a work and outside work. He will be missed by the whole marine community and by so many friends around the world. Indeed a true gentleman, a great friend and colleague. May he rest in peace.

Dear family,
Remembering the first meeting with Dave in 1990 within the navy engineering cooperation between the Royal Navy and the Royal Netherlands Navy. Dave was an inspiring and fascinating character. The start of the All Electric Ship (AES) program with Dave and team was magnificent, succesful and a period that will always be remembered. Dave and Chris Hodge had a great role in realising the AES within the Royal navy.
It is sad that he passed away. I wish the family a lot of strength to cope with the loss of Dave.

David and I worked together in the submarine section of the newly formed Director General Ships Refitting in the 1980s. He was always fun to be with, and an extremely competent engineer. I remember many happy hours spent in a hire car with David when I had, on occasion, to travel from Bath to Rosyth with him. I recall that David was a fast but safe driver - it was a great time and a period of my own service career that I remember fondly and much of that was due to David. May he rest in peace.

David was always so kind and understanding - as the brains and visionary behind the electric ship programme; he patiently taught me so much as we took it through the machinations in London - I'll never forget his smile and positivity. Chris Hockley
