It was a shock to hear of the sudden death of Councillor and Lord Mayor Barry Panter. I met him over the past year whilst he was Mayor. On the most recent meeting, in February, he and Lady Mayoress Beatrice presented enrolment certificates to Newcastle-under-Lyme Burgesses at St Giles Church.
Barry spoke enthusiastically about the borough’s rich history and traditions. Equally he was interested in people’s individual stories. A genuinely nice man, a real ‘people person’.
My condolences go out to Barry’s family. Rest in peace Barry.
