AlanSHEDWICKOf Accrington, suddenly passed away on Tuesday 4th February 2025 Aged 61 years.

Alan leaves behind long term partner Gayle who has been with him for the past 35 years, his son Oscar, sister Janet and an ever expanding family who he loved with all of his heart. He was a proud family man who was always happy to lend a hand, a tool and a joke at the drop of a hat. With a cheeky sense of humour which often had everyone laughing at work and family gatherings.

Alan had a love for the water either powerboating around the coast of Wales, his home away from home or jumping from cliffs into the sea. Alan had an affinity for animals, many of which became pets over the years. He leaves behind Pat whom he adopted from Bleakholt and became the best of friends.

His funeral will take place on Wednesday 26th February 2025 1:40pm at Accrington Crematorium.

Family flowers only please, however Donations are welcome in memory of Alan to Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary which can be sent c/o

Dear Gayle and Oscar, we were very sorry to hear of Alan’s passing. He had been a constant presence in my childhood and my overriding memories of him are his humour and his kindness. Our thoughts are with you both at this time. Cathy and Mark.

I had the absolute pleasure of knowing Al for just over 19 years. When I first started as a comms operator Al was assigned to be my mentor and I remember towards the end of the training course, I was so nervous so I decided I would email Al with a thousand and one questions about what to expect on my first day and so on. Al replied with something along the lines of ‘You’ll be fine! See you Monday’. With that one line, all my nerves just slipped away and I knew I was in safe hands. We had so many giggles whilst working together and passed the time during ‘Q’ night shifts generally just by making fun of each other and throwing grapes in each other's brews!! I’ll always remember Al’s giant character mugs he used to make his brews in and I would often comment about him not washing his mug properly to which he’d say, ‘well if I did, it wouldn’t taste as good’.

He was so unbelievably proud of his family. Gayle and Oscar, each time he would speak about you, his face would just light up, and the way he spoke about you, you could tell he was so immensely proud of you. I loved meeting Pat the greyhound and listening to stories about his tail and toes and his little shoes were quite possibly the cutest things I’ve ever seen.

Al, you were a true gent and I am a better person for knowing you. I will miss your quick wit and sharp sense of humor. Thank you for looking after me when I was a fresh faced comms op. Thank you for your stories and the giggles we shared but most of all thank you for being my friend. Sleep tight Al, I’ll miss you xxxx

What a pleasure it was to work and to know Alan. Always had time for everyone and always happy to help anyone who asked including me on more than one occasion.
Loved talking about our dogs and just an all round true gent and really great guy. Will be sadly missed.
