I first saw Lachie as a 10-year-old from the mini-bus when collecting his daughter from his house when we went to the play scheme back in 1998. But he is no stranger, and he was more than a father and a model boat builder.

Little did I know at the time that he is actually an athlete who participated the 1970 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games who completed 1st in the race and won a very large teddy bear.

10 years later, I met him again at the Glasgow Model Boat Club and I saw him there on Sundays for a good few years.

I was very lucky to have met him and an athlete could be any of us, and this just happened to be Lachie Stewart.

He was a very talented man and there will never be another man like him. He may rest in peace.

Ran at lunchtimes with Lachie when he worked at Port Glasgow health centre, 25 years ago. He is the reason I got faster and fitter. RIP Lachie. Anne Hay
