BrigitteADAMSIt is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing on 3 April 2026 of Brigitte "Rita" Adams, wife of the late George Adams and dear friend to many.
Born in Hamelin, Germany and raised in Gateshead, Rita will be remembered fondly by all that knew her, a kind and loving lady that will never be forgotten.
Whilst a loss for all of us, Rita and her beloved husband are reunited at last.
A private cremation will take place on Thursday 30 April at 8.31am. We ask that all who knew Rita take a moment on the day to remember her, share a story and raise a glass in her honour.

Dearest Rita,
Where do I start? It has been a pleasure to know you over the past 8 years, you welcomed me into your life and from day one I saw your sparkle!
My first memory of you is the story of the “four cheese pizzas” 2 pizzas with 4 different cheeses, however you couldn’t get your head around why there was not 4 cheese pizzas in the packet!
As time went on, you would say “are you two away again” (Robert and I) and leave hilarious voicemails. “It’s Rita, answer your bloody phone! you two better not be away again mind! Il be foaming if you are.. lol p.s can you check me lottery” 😂
All of this aside Rita, you a a legend and we love and miss you very much.
Until we meet again. Lots of love ❤️

Today, I want to say goodbye to a very special woman — not family by blood, but family by heart.

What started over 10 years ago as a simple visit to my sister’s salon turned into something so much more. From doing her nails in the salon, to visiting her at home, our time together grew into a friendship I will forever treasure. In the end, I didn’t just go to do her nails — I went to spend time with her, to laugh, to chat, and to share moments that meant more than words can say.

Even though her cat scared me to death and attacked me more times than I can count, it never once stopped me from going back. That’s the kind of pull she had — the kind of person she was. Full of cheek, always ready with a bit of banter, and always able to give as good as she got.

It truly was an honour to know her, and an even greater honour when she asked, because she had no grandchildren of her own, if Mady could be her grandchild. And Mady gladly accepted, loving her as “Nanna Rita” — a bond that meant the world to both of them.

She will be deeply missed, but I will forever cherish the memories we made — the laughter, the stories, and the time we shared.

Fly high, my dear friend. Back in the arms of your beloved George and your babies. I hope one day we’ll meet again, but until then… go find my mam and give her a stern talking to.

Rest peacefully. You will never be forgotten.

Eee Rita, what can I say?!
You changed my life for the better when we first met 25+ years ago when you were petting my dog outside Peter's shop in Woodbine Street!
Who could have known that after that moment we'd not only be the closest of friends but next door neighbours then come to consider each other to be family.
You will be part of so many people's lives Rita, mine especially, but now is your time to enjoy the next life.
I'll miss your wit, humour and most of all your kind loving heart. I'll keep an ear out for it beating alongside your George's. xx

PS You threatened to come back back so at least we'll see you soon 😂 xx
