Fr NevilleASHTONThe sudden death of Father Neville Anthony Ashton on Thursday, February 4, came as a huge shock to his family, friends, fellow parishioners, and all who knew him. Neville started his studies at All Saints’ Church of England Primary School and All Saints’ Church, not far from his family home in Mossley. He attended All Saints’ Church every Sunday. This is what ignited the faith within him. Following school he worked in the local mill, saving up to go to college. The next decade saw him complete his dream; training for the priesthood, gaining his university degree, being Ordained, and completing further studies in theology. He fulfilled a number of roles over the decades, but finally settled at Church Kirk (St James’ Church) in St James’ Road, Church, Acccrington. It was an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Accrington, the archdeaconry of Blackburn, and the diocese of Blackburn, until November 2015 when it was sadly closed and Father Neville Ashton retired. No flowers please; donations can be made to Mossley Brass Band c/o funeral director Wolstenholme Funeral Service, Accrington.
