JohnBARTONThe funeral service of the late John Barton of Nether Compton, Sherborne, Dorset who passed away on the 18th June 2020, aged 80 years, took place on Thursday 2nd July 2020. John came from a farming family, and his love of farming was reflected in his final journeys, witnessed by the people of the village who lined the route, as they were unable to attend due to the Coronavirus restrictions. A tractor and trailer took his coffin, sat on a straw bale, from his home to St. Nicholas's Church, Nether Compton for a service led by Rev. David Bond. After the church service the coffin was placed into the 'Landyhearse', (A. J. Wakely's converted Land Rover) for John's final journey to Yeovil Crematorium. Local family run Funeral Directors, A J Wakely & Sons of Yeovil and Sherborne, conducted the funeral and supplied all the vehicles. Matthew Paterson Associate Director said "Our company endeavours to give everybody the funeral they or their family desire, whilst remaining dignified and respectable at all times." He went on to say "It was a real privilege to assist in carrying out John's final wishes."
