George taught me at Yarborough Junior school. I have lots of fond memories of him teaching us how to play cricket, inspiring us with art and poetry but mostly, I remember how often and how proudly he spoke of his daughter… He always used to begin stories with ‘my daughter, Lucy…’ RIP xx

Very sad news to hear about Me Bates. He was my art teacher at Willows Junior School, great chap. Always stopped to say hello if I saw him in M&S when I’m home, he never forgot. You’ll be missed Mr Bates, RIP.

Sorry to hear of the loss of such a lovely man and encouraging teacher. Always there to advise and help me with English, poetry and my art Even when meeting Mr Bates after leaving school he always asked about my art. Couldn’t have wished a nicer person. God bless

George taught me in the 1980s at Willows and he was undoubtedly my most favourite teacher. I had the pleasure of seeing him often in my previous role with his lovely wife, Pamela and we shared many cherished memories together. Still had his infectious sense of humour and always had a smile. Sending heartfelt condolences to Pamela, Lucy and all that knew him.
