Brian William RobertBENNETTBrian Bennett was born in September 1933 in Hendon, North London, the only son of William and Louisa Bennett. He spent his formative years in London. He was a bright child and won a full scholarship to the prestigious Haberdashers' Aske School which was based in Hampstead at that time. Brian was a keen scholar and also a very good tennis player, playing for the school team and earning his First Team Colours. He was secretary of the Abbott Club which was the school's senior debating society. Brian shared a love of cricket with his father, and living in North London, was also a lifelong Arsenal fan. Brian attended Haberdashers' Aske from 1945 until 1952. He then studied Law at the London School of Economics and graduated in 1955. He did his articles at a London firm. He met Margaret Giffard in Epsom around this time and they married in 1958. They spent their honeymoon in Cornwall and liked it so much that they decided to live there. They moved to Redruth in 1961 and were made to feel very welcome. Brian worked for a local firm of solicitors. Their children, Sally and Peter, were born in 1962 and 1964 respectively. The family moved to St Agnes, spending many happy years there and becoming part of the community. Brian and Liz joined the Round Table and regularly took part in the St Agnes Carnival and many fundraising events. They divorced in 1980 and Brian later married Shirley Morris in 1981. By this time Brian had set up his own legal practice, with an office in Perranporth. He later moved to premises in Lemon Street, Truro. Brian and Shirley moved to Newquay where they remained ever since. They were both keen gardeners and walkers, regularly taking walks along the coastal paths of the North Coast. Brian was a kind and gentle person with a dry sense of humour. He had a great memory for jokes and anecdotes from his many years spent as a solicitor in Cornwall. Brian died peacefully at home on 18th December 2024, aged 91. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Brian leaves his second wife Shirley and first wife Liz, children Sally and Peter, stepson David, grandchildren Mollie and Hugo.
