RitaBENTLEYPeacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, December 1, at the Hollies Nursing Home, Rita Doreen Bentley, aged 88, of Clayton-le-Moors. The devoted wife of the late Reginald, dear sister of Eileen, loved auntie of Peter and Paul, and a dear great-auntie, and also a loved and respected friend to many. Rita was born in Blackburn where she grew up and attended school locally. Her working life began in the local mills and factories as a capstan setter. Following the loss of her mother, Rita joined her father helping run the family pub at The Whalley Range. It was here that she met Reg; love blossomed which led to a long and happy marriage. Together they embarked on a career as landlord and landlady of the Old England Forever in Clayton-le-Moors, becoming a well respected pillar of the local community. She was a member of All Saints Church and an active member of The Royal British Legion. Rita adored cats and she shared her home with many local strays for which she lovingly cared. A service of thanksgiving was due to be held at All Saints Church, Clayton-leMoors on Thursday, December 10, at 10.30am followed by interment at Pleasington Cemetery. Flowers requested. Funeral Director: Champ Funeral Services.
