I knew David for over 30 years, from the time my parents first moved to Blaby and became the next-door neighbours of David and his late parents Olive and Harry. My mother moved house several years ago, but she still saw David most weeks. He would collect fresh farm eggs for her and she would take him the sports supplement from the weekend newspaper. They would chat about football, David’s walking holidays and table tennis.
My mother and I would often bump into David on the bus to or from Leicester. When he became the reluctant owner of a mobile phone I would dial his number to let him know we were on the same bus, then we’d have a chuckle together over his surprise at his mobile actually ringing or I’d gently tease him if he didn’t have it switched on!
David was a good friend and neighbour, always cheerful and very kind. He will be missed.
