I first met Cynthia in January 1978, as a neighbour invited me to go round to meet some of the ladies from the Southfield Road Methodist Church who met either fortnightly or monthly.. Cynthia was a good organiser and during our meetings we made Christmas crackers which we sold , nearer Christmas time, to the people at the church. We did this for 3 or 4 years. We called ourselves 'Young Wives' but as the years progressed and we weren't young anymore and single women joined our merry band we became Monday group as we met in each others' homes on that particular evening. Cynthia was a great hostess, making us feel very welcome and baking beautiful cakes and scones. She and her husband were always interested in what you had to say and enjoyed the company of other people.
As the years went by and our lives became even busier we could not always meet on a Monday evening we became 'Open House Friends' and that name remained until Southfield Methodist Church closed and the members of that church amalgamated with Grove Hill Church. Open House disbanded but we joined The Ladies Fellowship at Grove Hill Church. There were a few of us who did not attend the church but we came along to the Ladies Fellowship once a month. As I drove from Stokesley I called for Ena and then Cynthia. Kathy and Lynn met us there if they could. Cynthia had a leadership role in these meetings and enjoyed playing the piano for us to sing hymns.
Cynthia's involvement in the Methodist Church was paramount and as Cynthia always said when I drove her home after the meeting, ' Goodnight and God Bless'.
Cynthia you are missed.
Love from Jackie, Lynn, Kathy and Ena
