Esther, I first met you when Maggie dragged me back to meet her Mum, looking back I should have realised how lucky I was, you and Maggie are alike in many ways.
You and my Mum were very good friends. We all went on holiday to Menorca. You were both in a separate chalet to us and were the original “Patty and Selma” smoking all day and having a wonderful time, you were a very good friend to my Mum and I am so grateful for that.
You always won at Monopoly every Christmas and despite not seeing very well always knew when someone landed on your property! We had two Nicknames for you, Keith always called you “Trouble” with affection of course, then after the Birth of Isla you became Great Great Grandma – or 3G.
Over the years You were a wonderful Mother in Law to me, though recently I’ve greatly missed the banter all we used to have with you, though you always gave better than you received.
Your passing was devastating to us all, but we know your at peace now and can take some measure of comfort from it, I imagine you’re reunited with Ivan and Will and probably having a fag with my Mum, you are sorely missed by everyone but we all know you are in a better place,
Love Nigel

We had a wonderful grandma
One who never really grew old
Her smile was made of sunshine
And her heart was solid gold
Her eyes were bright as shining stars
And in her cheeks fair roses you see.
We had a wonderful grandma,
And that’s the way it will always be.
But take heed, because
She’s still keeping an eye on all of us,
So let’s make sure
She will like what she sees.

I chose this poem because it seemed to describe you perfectly, Grandma. I have such wonderful memories of you which I will cherish dearly… The excitement of having a sleepover at the weekend; the smell of you cooking us ‘real’ chips; playing shops in your pantry; holding your hand as you took me for a walk round Alton Towers whilst the older ones went on rides; teaching me how to bake and igniting my love for baking; going to Florida with you; dancing with you at my wedding; watching you hold your great grandsons for the first time; your chuckle as Willow would steal tissues out of your pocket; your warm, comforting hug and your beautiful, generous soul. I will cherish it all and hold you close in my heart. Forever.

All our love
