The obituary notice of Tomos Arthur CUNNINGTON

I admired Tomos. He was my nephew, but I did not know him well. Meetings when we visited the UK. The time he came to Indonesia in 1996 with Sheila and Lowri. Our holiday on Kea in 2016 they were brief times to get to know him better. But he was quiet. You could see he was thinking but we did not engage deeply.

So, it was admiring from afar. Here was a man born with a terrible affliction surrounded by extremely bright and communicatively brilliant siblings. His whole life was defined by struggle. And struggle he did - his time with Alex fighting to get his degree - to be a normal person. Oh, how he struggled - then he met Lesley Jane - and I think that was his happiest if brief time. A normal person ... then the terrible tragedy when she died. So, he fell back in on himself and never recovered .... but for me he will ever be an indomitable spirit fighting against the odds.

I would never have the courage and spirit he had, for me he is one of life's heroes. And for you his mother, brother and sisters - don't feel sad, don't be guilty - you had the lived experience of 38 years - every day. He is at peace now - Tomos Arthur Cunningham - know you were loved and admired. David & Elizabeth
