William PhilipDAVIESWith great sadness, we announce the death of William Philip Davies, age 89 years on Wednesday the 14th of August, 2024. Father of Jill and Claire, grandfather to Peter and Senbeto and loving husband to Beryl who passed away 3 years before him. Born in Middlesbrough, William was always known as Billy or Bill. He had a gift for numeracy and accuracy and thus spent his entire career as an accountant, mainly in the steel industry for Redpath Dorman Long. He enjoyed excellent health and spent many happy years in retirement with Beryl, embracing their love of walking in the countryside, horse racing, trips to Sandsend, travel to France and tending to his garden of sweet peas, roses and peonies. We remember Bill as a quiet person, who nevertheless observed everything, which he would sum up in a single remark, often with great humour. He showed great kindness to his family, a devoted carer to Beryl in her latter years and was always stoical, saying it never did any good to complain. Bill passed away peacefully on Ward 12 at James Cook Hospital with family by his side. We are grateful to the ward staff for the kindness and compassion shown to him and his family in his final weeks of life. Funeral service to be held on Thursday 5th September in Christ Church, Great Ayton. 11.00am prior to cremation. Will friends kindly meet at church. Family flowers only please, donations if so desired to the RNLI. All enquiries to Rea Funeral Service. Great Ayton. Tel: 01642 724796
