MarianDEWHURSTpassed away at Turfcote Nursing Home on Sunday, November 15, aged 92. Born November 9, 1928 to Herbert and Florence Riley, Marian spent her early life on Hud Hey Farm Haslingden. She attended St Johns Stonefold before completing her education at Haslingden Grammar School. Her first job was in the tax and payroll office at Worsleys Mill, aged 15, during the war. Following the death of her beloved mother Florence at 41, Marian took over the responsibility of homemaker to her father and brothers Jack and Harry. Marian went on to meet her husband Jack at a Farmers Ball and in 1948 they married. They had three children, Barbara, David and Carole. She was also mother-in-law to Sheila and Frank, and Barbara’s partner Melvyn. Marian worked at Holland’s Pies Baxenden up to her retirement, and always fondly remembered her work colleagues. Always a hard worker, she was generous and compassionate, and will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, Katrina, Guy, David Edward, Alicia and Holly, also her great-grandchildren, Christianna, Malakai, Saffron, Lars, Lily and Emilio, her brother Harry, and all her nieces and nephews. The funeral service and committal was to take place on Wednesday, December 2, 1.40pm at Accrington Crematorium. Donations in memory of Marian, if desired, to the Multiple Sclerosis Funeral director: Caroline Holden-Dewhurst for Johnson, Durning and Woods Haslingden.
