Raymond AlanGILLRay 1931 - 2019 Local businessman and founder of Lansdown Insurance Brokers passed away peacefully at home on 17th August 2019. Ray grew up and spent the majority of his life in Cheltenham. He started his own driving school (The Lansdown School of Motoring) in 1962 and shortly after, the highly successful Lansdown Insurance Brokers which was located in Cheltenham's Promenade before relocating to the prestigious Lansdown House, Pittville Circus Road. After more than 50 years in business, he sold his interests in Lansdown Insurance Brokers in 2014 and started a commercial property company with his daughter, Jane, and continued working until his final days. He was a gentleman and will be fondly remembered for his love of cars and Art. A private man, Ray was always keen to give advice where it was needed and will be greatly missed by his family and those whose lives he touched as employer, mentor and friend. Much loved husband of Barbara, father to Jane and Peter, father-in-law to Martin, grandpa to Ethan and Lili and brother to surviving sisters Betty and Sandra. A private burial has taken place and a celebration of his life will take place in Cheltenham in October. Any kind donations will be collected for the Leukaemia and Intensive Chemotherapy Fund (Linc) and Ward 7b Gloucester Royal Hospital. Ray was a true gentleman and loyal friend to my father.
He was always there for support and advice throughout the many years of friendship.
My heart goes out to all the family to the sad loss of this lovely man.
