James was a mainstay of the Manchester University Folk Dance Society when I joined in 1981. We lived in the same house (8 Turnbull Road) in 1982/3. I have fond memories of us spending far too long programming an early personal computer (BBC B) when we should have been studying.

He will be missed by many.
