JamesHODGSONIn Loving Memory of Jim

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jim, who left us peacefully on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Regional Hospice in Ridgefield, Connecticut, USA, at the age of 73.

Jim will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Catherine; his son, David, and daughter-in-law, Melissa; his cherished grandson, Jude; his daughter, Susan, and son-in-law, Bill; and his treasured grandchildren, Leo and Hannah.

Jim was a much-loved and respected educator at Southport College, where he dedicated himself to inspiring students from September 1996 to November 2012. His warmth, kindness, humour and passion for teaching touched the lives of many.

A memorial to celebrate Jim's life will be held at his home in Ridgefield, Connecticut, at the end of March. Details will be shared with family and friends in the coming weeks.

Jim's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Jim: “Do you want a drink?”
Me: “Thanks, but I’ve got one ‘ere.”
Jim : “How do you keep your glasses on?”

When Jim was an apprentice and later a refrigeration engineer it was common for such workers to quip and be ready with the ‘off-the-peg ‘ witty response but Jimmy Hodgson was an exponent of this art-form par excellence!
Jim was not frivolous or easily influenced but he would not want to cloud his day with weighty or philosophical matters.
In the late 1970s I was a member of a band and one evening the van wouldn’t start. I phoned Jim and with zero notice he and Catherine appeared and we transferred the drums, amplifiers etc. into the ‘Walkers Refrigeration ‘ van and Jim drove us to Wallasey where the ‘booking’ was.
More than once Jim went with me to buy a used car . Within seconds of meeting the seller Jim had become his friend and I knew he would soon be laughing.
Jim always got a good deal.
Not long before he and Catherine moved to America I called him because I needed help with my mobile phone. As always he said: “Come round .” And of course he would know how to fix the blighter!
I think he liked helping people.

Jim couldn’t tell this one without laughing:
“A man walked into a chip shop late at night and said: “Have you got any chips left ?”
The shop man said “We have ,yes.”
The other man said:”Well you shouldn’t have made so many then should you!”

To Cath and family.
Sending our deepest condolences to you during this difficult time. Jim and Cath were our neighbours in England. Jim had the cleanest car on the street, I’m sure he bought a red car to annoy us as we are a blues but that was Jim, any chance he got to have a dig about Everton, he did. We miss that. He had a great sense of humour and is deeply missed. RIP, Jim. Lots of love, Dean and Jade
