BrendaHOYLE(Née Sunderland) BRENDA passed away peacefully at home on July 2, with son, Nick, and daughter, Rachel, at her side. She was 81.
Brenda was a nursery nurse and for most of her adult life worked at Staghills Nursery School in Newchurch. She retired from Staghills in 2007 with many happy memories of the years she spent there. Brenda had a passion for educating the children and left a lasting impression on those she had worked with, both the youngsters and their family. In her later years many people, from carers to cleaners, recognised her from Staghills, having been taught by her or taken their children to the nursery school. Brenda loved spending time with her family; she was an avid reader, and latterly, as her health declined, she enjoyed relaxing in front of the television. Going out for meals was a pleasure, and she regularly dined at Sykeside Country House Hotel before it closed. She enjoyed travelling, both in this country and abroad.
Brenda had a close association with several churches in the valley. She originally worshipped at Woodtop Gospel Mission, which had a special connection to the family. She attended Kay St Baptist for many years where she was actively involved, including running the Ladies Fellowship and singing in the Praise Group. Brenda also had connections with Zion Baptist at Cloughfold, Goodshaw Baptist and St Mary's Rawtenstall.
She had been a widow for many years, her husband Alan passed away in 2010. She leaves behind her son, Nick, daughter, Rachel and her granddaughter, Hannah. She also leaves her sister and brother-in-law Sheila and Fred Wild, her sister Thelma Hitch, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
