Both myself and Nic are incredibly saddened to hear of David / Mr Hunt’s passing. I remember Mr Hunt as my head of year at Thomas Alleynes, however being a model pupil(!) our paths never really crossed.

It was later in life through Uttoxeter Cricket Club that I got to know David much better, as a member of the executive committee I remember David providing strong but balanced views and having to sit as peacekeeper between the more traditional members of the club and the younger generation, a job that no one wanted, but one David was able to deal with his own calm manner, a skill that a lot of people could have learned from.

I never actually played a game with David, but I remember him regularly imploring people to play straight…..whilst also encouraging (well some of the time) David Jnr of whom he was rightly incredibly proud of.

David also had a way of making everyone feel welcome at the club and especially went out of his way to chat with Nic when she was at the club, and we will remember those sunny afternoons we had for many years.

We are absolutely gutted to be unable to make David’s funeral on Saturday and we hope that everything runs as smoothly as it can , as well as being filled with memories of David and the great man that he was.

Rest in Peace
Jim and Nic Malkin
