MarieJAGGERMrs Marie Emma Jagger, of Whalley Road, Accrington, died on Thursday, November 19, aged 75 years. Marie began her career as an apprentice ladies’ hair stylist in Glasgow in the early 1960s, before moving to England in 1964 with her parents Erling and Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Hermansen, her elder sister Irene, and her younger brother Ronald. Initially they resided on Bolton Avenue in Huncoat, before moving to the family home, as it became known, on Stanley Street in Accrington, where Marie’s parents continued to live until their deaths. Marie was widely respected and well-loved for her hard work, over long hours, over many years, and her dedicated attention to detail in hairdressing, after becoming well known as the proprietor of Marie’s Ladies Hairstylist formerly of South Street, then of Nuttall Street. More recently she was the co-owner and worked part-time at Ringlets of Stanley Street, in the town. She retired fully in 2010 when she decided to care for her husband, Ken, after his recent illness, and spent a further 10 years devoting herself to him and to the rest of her loving family. Although, when the need arose, Marie was a true fiery Scot, privately she was also very humble. She enjoyed nothing more than reading a good book, or knitting endless numbers of jumpers and cardigans. She loved pondering over a variety of puzzles and crosswords, and embraced family time with a passion. For the last 35 years, she also found the time as a volunteer to plunge herself into the roles of chairperson and wardrobe mistress for Hyndburn Comets Majorette Troupe, roles she held passionately, demonstrating a great pride in the girls’ uniforms as she watched them dance over many an hour, over many a weekend, over many weeks, over many years. Marie also had a real soft spot when it came to animals, not only her own, but of any king, around the world, supporting endless charities through donations, and caring intently for her own animals throughout her lifetime. Marie was the devoted, much-loved, cherished wife to Ken for 55 years, mother to Stephen, Sonia and Pauline, mother-in-law to the late Christine and Dave (respectively), nana to Gemma, Becky, Lewis, Grace and Archie, great-nana ‘Murphy’ to Isla, and dearly beloved ‘fur’ mum to Murphy. The funeral was due to be held on Friday, November 27, 9.40am at Accrington Crematorium, led by Neil Overton. Donations are welcome to East Lancashire Hospice c/o funeral director. Funeral director: Hyndburn Funeral Services, Accrington.
