Roger Jones Eulogy
Roger always used to say that his heart was forever in Parkmill and Sandy Lane – where he grew up in idyllic Gower with his family around him – his mother, Annie, father, David, and his deeply beloved sisters Gerry and Sonia. He would talk with warmth in his heart of his time there also with his nieces Beverley and Suzanne, and his nephew Jonothan. He told me how much he loved Parkmill School where he would sing All Things Bright and Beautiful every morning. His sharp intelligence allowed him to pass the 11plus and attend Gowerton Grammar School and then on to university in Bournmouth with his childhood friends Gary and David, who sadly are unable to be here today, but send their love and flowers.
To bring Roger vividly to life, I recall our family visits to London, where I would take his beloved sisters Sonia and Gerry, and my children, Naomi and Oliver, my sister Suzanne and her daughter Tala, and even our beloved dog, Jack. In those days Roger would take us on tours around London steeping us in history and culture, fun and adventure for the children with boat rides along the Thames and Christmas trips to Hamley’s.
These are personal memories for myself and my family, but what I am struck by in talking to the others in his life, his wonderful friends and their families who were so kind and helpful to Rog as illness took its toll and started to confine him, were the words which people have used to describe him -his humour, intelligence and thoughtfulness.
Roger was an educated, well-read and cultured man - his meticulously composed words and handwriting a lesson in calligraphy itself.
Roger was a very caring man – he cared deeply about his family, his friends and he cared about anima
