Saddened to hear of Mario’s passing. He was a lovely man and a big part of my childhood with my late Mum Noëlle. We often went to the Alpinia cafe for yummy lunch and treats! His croissants and coffee ice cream were the best! And I remember those Easter Eggs. My Mum used to work for him and help wrap them all! He was so talented and apparently gave me my first food as a baby! Think of him as extended family. RIP Mario your cafe and kindness will forever be remembered 💖

Mario was a very special person. He was a very real master baker. Alpinia was a magical world of extraordinary creations all baked and cooked to perfection. Mario’s bread was second to none and both myself and my son Digby who was so fond of Mario will always remember Alpinia with such fondness. Mario always had time for his customers. A warm and generous man. With Mario’s passing a little bit of magic goes with him. We will always remember and miss him. God bless you Mario with love always Jane Digby Tim and Lucinda
