HowardLINDSAYpassed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Massachusetts, US. He was born on February 6, 1927, in Lancashire. He was a resident of Hamilton, Massachusetts, US, for 59 years.

“You can take the lad out of Lancashire but you can’t take Lancashire out of the lad.” That was true for Howard, but he was also a worldly man in his own right. He was an only child, who grew up with many close cousins in Helmshore and Haslingden, in Lancashire. His mother Lizzie worked from a young age as a weaver at a local cotton mill and his dad Joe as a postman.

An engineer by training and education, Howard earned his degree in mechanical engineering at what is now Salford University in the UK. He went on to enjoy a successful multi-decade career in the aircraft engine industry that started at Blackburn Engineering in the UK. He was adventurous and bold, not one to settle. He moved his young family from their homeland to explore new opportunities in Canada and the United States. He concluded his career with 25 years at General Electric’s aircraft engine division in Lynn, after previously working for Pratt & Whitney near Montreal and Lycoming in Connecticut. He was a creative problem-solver not only on the job but also in his approach to life as a whole, whether parenting, or otherwise.

He and his dear wife, Olga, and four children enjoyed traveling around North America, the UK and beyond. There were camping and hiking trips and cross-country adventures. He kept ties strong with the UK family, traveling back and forth regularly.

Over the years he took up furniture building and painting, first in oil then watercolor and acrylic. His paintings won awards and he was a member of the Beverly Guild of Artists. An avid tennis and golf player, he was a member of several local clubs including the Georgetown Country Club. Once retired he designed a sunroom addition to their Hamilton home, which helped brighten the long New England winters.

His greatest joy in life was his family—his beloved wife of nearly 73 years, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—whom he cherished deeply and guided with unwavering love, wisdom, and support.

In addition to his wife Olga, now of Beverly, he leaves his four children: Wendy Lindsay and husband Peter Theriault of Beverly, Melody Hart of Haverhill, Karen Dunn and partner John Puleo of Kittery and Douglas Lindsay and wife Ruth of Beverly.

He also leaves 13 grandchildren and their partners/spouses: Rebecca and husband Jonas of Sweden; Tray and wife Kristie, Chantal and husband Nate of New Hampshire; Nathan, Erin and partner Mike, Bryna and partner Dan, Kat and husband Justin, and Mary of Massachusetts; Rory and wife Jear; Alec and wife Lauren, and Nigel of Maine; and Sam and Abby of California.
Also 12 great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins in the UK. He was well liked and easily gained friends of all ages throughout his life.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 and a private burial in the Hamilton Cemetery.
