JackLORDMr Jack Lord, of Deerplay Rest Home, Weir, died peacefully after a long illness, on Friday, July 30, aged 91. Born in Bacup, he was husband to the late Margery Lord and brother to Tom Lord. Father to the late Bryan, he leaves sons Terry and his wife Lynn, and John and his partner Lynnette. He will be sadly missed by his three grandchildren Ben, Katy and Sam, step-grandsons Daniel and Thomas, and nine great-grandchildren. Jack was employed by the Gas Board as a gas fitter for 30 years before retiring from the local council. He was a keen brass bandsman and played for both Goodshaw and Stacksteads Bands. Jack also enjoyed travelling, and loved spending his weekends watching Bacup Cricket Team at the Lanehead Club. A service will be held at 11.10am on Friday, August 6, at the Chapel of Rest, followed by interment in Bacup Cemetery at 11.45am conducted by Mr Peter Goulding. Family flowers only; donations in memory to Alzheimer’s Society. Funeral director: Anthony Johnson Funeral Services Ltd, Bacup.

So sad to see that Jack had died my late husband Alan Woodworth worked with Jack at the Gas Board from being an apprentice. No doubt we could have shared Alan's memories of their Gas Board employment. Alan moved over to Burnley in the Sixties when we married, he continued.working for North West Gas til he retired and died in 2012. My connection was with his late wife Marjorie through Sunday School.
