DavidLYNCH31/12/1919 - 04/07/2020. After a short illness David died on Saturday 4th July 2020. Born in Gorton in Manchester, he moved to Higher Blackley in the 1930's and this was his residence for the rest of his life. He spent his entire working life with C.H Johnson and Sons Ltd, first at the works in Smedley and later in Wythenshawe. He began as a labourer and rose to become Assistant Works Manager. David has many lifelong friends among his workmates. David was a volunteer during WWII and after basic training was posted to Egypt and the 3rd King's Own Hussars. He served as Trooper David "Benny" Lynch and was involved in several major actions including 'El Alamein'. Also, he was attached to a special forces unit and served with them throughout the Middle East. David was a sociable man throughout his life and involved in several local clubs, notably the re-establishment of Higher Blackley British Legion after the war. A very popular man in the area, David was a regular in recent years at the "Duke of Wellington" where he had many friends. A devoted family man, David survived his wife of more than 60 years, Mary Agnes "May" Lynch, who died in 2014 and sons Stephen Lynch and John Lynch who died all too young. David himself is survived by daughter Susan, sons Peter and David, granddaughter Antonia, and great-grandson Francis. David will be buried in the family grave at Blackley Cemetery.
