AlanMATHERMR Alan Mather, of Kirkdale Avenue, Newchurch, Rossendale, died at his home, aged 95. Much loved husband to Rita, he was father to Karl and Kirsten, grandfather to Janine, Luke and Dane, great-grandfather to Lewis, Eva, Max, Annie, Charlie, and Eleanor, uncle Alan to his nieces and nephews and friend to many. Originally from Burnley, he was the last surviving sibling of seven brothers and sisters. After school Alan joined the Navy at 16 where he remained as a regular until after the war. After a period working as painter and decorator, he started work at Holmes Shed Slipper Works in the 50s where he worked until his retirement. His interests revolved around his family, wife, children, grandchildren, home and garden. In later years he enjoyed sitting watching the world go by whilst enjoying the views from the garden of his home in Newchurch. He was a devoted husband to his wife Rita, nursing her for many years until she went into care at Hill View Nursing Home, where, until his death, he spent most of his days sitting with her. He will be sadly missed by wife Rita and all his family and friends. Family flowers only please, any donation in lieu of flowers to Rossendale Hospice via funeral director Dawn Winfield for Fred Hamer Funeral Service.
