PhilipMCGARRY(Killingworth). Suddenly on holiday in Crete on 10th May, aged 74 years, Philip, dearly loved husband of Sheila, loving dad of Jennifer, Kevin, Christine and David, also a much loved father-in-law and devoted grandad and great grandad. Friends please meet for service at the West Road Crematorium on Thursday 28th May at 11.00am. Immediate family flowers only by request, donations in lieu if desired to the British Heart Foundation and the Parachute Regiment Association, a collection plate will be available at the crematorium. A Man apart - An Emperor


Phil - Thinking of you and special memories you provided. You were a huge influence in my life, and an incredible role model. From my first days as a recruit - to our experiences in the Sergeant's Mess - you were one of the most genuine people I have ever met. It was great to see you last year. Keep those feet and knees together one last time for the final landing. Airborne!

An Airborne Warrior


First meeting him in 1963, as a young Crow of 17, he changed my life and set me on a path which I have never regretted. He made me a 'Tom'. He also loved the Parachute Regiment. His high standards and sense of well being were reflected in the people he touched. His hardness, smartness and humour made him an excellent Airborne Soldier.
I remember once in the 'cage' with him at 800 feet with 4 other Paras, all feeling apprehensive. He looked over and stated"Div'nt worry lads - over there is the R.V.I. Hospital, over there is the General Hospital and in the distance is the Freeman Hospital, so there's plenty of hospitals aboot if owt gans wrang. So cheer up lads.....and enjoy yer jump"!
Your final exit Phil. I am so proud to have known you all these years.
