We lived not far off with a smallholding in hills above Crickhowell. Small Country Living was essential radio listening for us in the 1970s and although we knew Jeanine had to be living somewhere nearby we never actually met. She gave us so much true pleasure with her radio presence and later her books! Can't believe we never actually met up as we also had rare-breed pigs; goats; sheep; ducks; hens etc. She lived a great life and inspired many.

This lady was a joy and an inspiration. I loved hearing her on Radio 4, and used to warden the little hostel across the valley. She is remembered with thanks for her life well lived and generously shared.

I first met Jeanine in her books back in the late 1980s; then we corresponded for a time and talked occasionally on the phone. We lost touch after I moved, and I did not learn of her death until a long time afterwards. I am grateful for her friendship and for her books, where I can always find her again.

I was given Jeanine's books to read as a young woman by my aunt also called MRS P. I have just re-read them again 30 years later, they make me laugh and make me cry. I wished I had written to her to tell her how brilliant her books were/are

Such a talented and empathetic writer. Ms McMullen writes about the magic of Wales as well as revealing to us her love and understanding of the animal kingdom. She is sorely missed.

I listened to A Small Country Living from the start, it was fascinating, gentle and inspiring. A window into a way of life and values overlooked by politicians, 30 years later even more so. It's a valuable social history & a treasure, Nick

I just got Jeanines book ( signed by her ) and remembered I had read it years ago. A life well lived , but too short. I shall pass it on to my friend who also lives on a few acres near Aber .
