MHAIRI MCBEATHOn 13 March, 1996, Mhairi McBeath became one of 17 victims to die at the hands of Dunblane gunman Thomas Hamilton. She, like other classmates to perish, was just five years old.Mhairi Isabel McBeath was from Kilbryde. Her father, Murray, who had been a lecturer in religious studies at Stirling University, died of a stroke in October 1995.Mhairi, 15 of her classmates and their teacher, Gwen Mayor, died during a terrying ordeal in the gymnasium of Dunblane Primary School in Scotland. Former Scout leader Hamilton burst in and opened fire at the children and their teacher, wounding many others. She died later in hospital.According to reports, Mhairi's mother Isobel was at a memorial service for her husband when she learned of her daughter’s death.A funeral service was later held at Dunblane Cathedral.In the years following the massacre, Mhairi's face appeared on posters in a hard-hitting campaign by SAGE (Society Against Guns in Europe) to ban guns.
