John 💔 my friend of 8 years. You powered through your injuries and continued on your journey to leave this earth in a better place. Wonderful intelligent warm loving caring man you were. Inspirational to the end.

One of the good ones. Clear headed, kind hearted, and straight talking. Not to mention a quick wit. It was always great to see you and catch up. You will be much missed. Rest in peace.

I can’t quite believe that John is no longer with us. I’ve spent the past couple of weeks remembering the great times we shared since we first met at a spice Halloween party 18 years ago. John was fun, intelligent kind and generous. Knowing my love of peas he once gave me a book about the goodness of peas written by John Midgley! I am very much going to miss popping round for coffee with you, when I’m up visiting Holmfirth. Goodbye my friend. Love Fran xx

Rip John

I met John just over a year ago when I became his MSt Supervisor, but after several conversations I felt like I'd known him much longer. Possibly because our shared geology background meant we knew lots of people in common, but most likely because he was the sort of person I always delighted in having great conversations with in pubs when I get back north! John was a real character, funny and warm, and a very intelligent scholar - I always left our conversations learning something important, and having had a laugh. I am so sad at his passing, and I know he still had much to contribute to the academic world and beyond. He will be very much missed.

I honestly can’t quite comprehend that John is no longer with us. I hadn’t seen him for some time but I’d known him over 20 years and thought of him as a true friend, a very very clever super intelligent man and ridiculously funny too! I have many good memories but some of my fave include him being at my 40th party on the Isle of Arran and the spice 25th anniversary ball. I’ll miss you John… there’ll never be another you! :( Nomes xxx
