John MichaelMOONEYWe are saddened to announce the passing of John Mooney on Saturday 9th December.
Born in Liverpool to Catherine (nee Smyth) and Michael Mooney, John was the youngest of three children, with his older brother David and sister Maria.
John joined the Navy Reserve at HMS Eaglet (Liverpool) where he learnt to be a navy diver. He took this skill and forged a successful career in the commercial diving industry working all over the world, including in Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and settling permanently in Houston, Texas.
John loved Rugby Union, playing for the local club at the Halton Arms, Runcorn where he met many of his friends. He was a dedicated follower of the England and Lions Rugby Teams, regularly visiting Twickenham and travelling the Rugby World Cups.
In 2020, John suffered a freak accident resulting in him becoming quadriplegic. Never to not meet a challenge head on, John learnt how to live with a severe disability returning to full time work mere months after the accident. His spirit and self determination saw him and his family through this significantly challenging period in his life.
Following a short illness, John passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and loved ones at his home in Texas.
He was a big man with a big heart, and will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a man you could meet a total stranger, and leave being great friends. He was a true gentleman and leaves a huge gap in our lives.
He is survived by his daughter Gemma, son Darren, grandchildren Chelsey, Dylan, Isaac and Lucca; sister Maria and family; wife Pauline, step-daughters Ruth and Kim, and grandchildren Lilly, Gracie, Frankie, & Harry.
