I met Mike the first time in the late 80s while working for NHBB in Peterborough, NH, USA. I was a young engineer just out of college and Mike came to the US for a short visit. Mike was working for Rose Bearings at the time. Rose Bearings was owned by the same Japanese company that owned NHBB which is why he was in the states. I liked him immediately and was fortunate to consider him a friend.
Along with bearings and engineering, we shared a fondness for golf that lead to biennial wagers on Ryder Cup outcomes. Mike and Colleen stayed with my wife and I in the US. He loved to flirt with Liz and she loved his accent and charm.
In 2002, Liz and I stayed a week with them so that Mike and I could attend the Ryder Cup in person at The Belfry. It was a wonderful week learning how to play darts with Colleen, take Zach, the dog, for long walks in the English countryside. Mike and I golfed and just like the Ryder Cup, the home team won.
I was able to make it back to visit in 2010 to get soaked in the rain with Mike and Adam. But I did learn not to buy the first umbrella you came across.
I appreciated that Daniel reached out to let me know this sad news. I miss Mike and Colleen. I think of them often with fondness and memories of only good times. Rest in Peace Mike. My sincere condolences to the Northcutt family and their friends who knew Mike. With deepest respect, Rik Michaud
