Auntie Joan Pauley was known to us as AJP and was a much loved member of our extended family. Joan grew up in Birmingham and was a lifelong friend of my mother, Jose Marsland. From my earliest memories of AJP, she had a powerful influence on me. As a much loved teacher, an active member of the Red Cross, and Lady Mayor of Okehampton, she was a remarkable female role model. Some of my first trips away from home were to stay with AJP in Okehampton. we used to have such fun together and I benefited in so many ways from her constant support and encouragement.Today, I live in the USA and will be unable to attend her funeral, but she will be in my thoughts and prayers. She will be sadly missed, but not forgotten. With love, Anna, her Goddaughter.

Anna Marsland
