Her Majesty QUEEN ELIZABETH IIdied peacefully at Balmoral on 08/09/2022, aged 96 years. The Queen's funeral will take place on Monday 19th September.
Born Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary on April 21,1926 in London, Her Majesty was the oldest daughter of Prince Albert, Duke of York and Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. The young Princess' destiny was forever changed in December 1936 when her uncle, King Edward VIII abdicated the throne making his brother, and Princess Elizabeth's father, Prince Albert Duke of York, King George VI. Princess Elizabeth then became Heir Presumptive to the throne.
Princess Elizabeth married Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten of the Royal Navy, formerly Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark on 20 November 1947. Prince Phillip was given the title Duke of Edinburgh and served loyally by the side of Her Majesty The Queen until his death on 9th April 2021.
The couple had two children Prince Charles, Prince of Wales and Anne, Princess Royal. On February 6th 1952 King George VI passed away making Princess Elizabeth, Queen Elizabeth II. A period of official mourning followed with the Queen's coronation being held some time later at Westminster Abbey on June 2nd 1953.
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh had two further children: Prince Andrew, Duke of York and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
On 2nd June 2022 Her Majesty celebrated 70 years on the throne making her the longest serving monarch in UK history. Her death will be felt around the world and a period of mourning is expected to last at least ten days. Further details of her funeral will be announced in due course.
