So sorry to know only now that you are no longer with us, dear Billy. You have been a marvellous friend and teacher! My wife Rosalba is always charmed by your paintings, and I still listen to engravings of your voice reading Oscar Wilde's Canterville ghost and some poems of Lord Byron.

So sorry we lost touch. William was a great friend and mentor to me at Cambridge. I shall never forget his kindness.

Dear William; we loved him. He prepared me for confirmation in Cambridge and married us in 1966. We kept in touch for years and visited him as he moved from post to post. His painted Christmas cards were always treasured. He was God loving, gentle, kind, caring and witty; an inspiration.
