Dilwyn JohnROGERSM.B.E. March 13th, 2015. Died peacefully after a long illness, aged 72 years. Dilwyn had spent most of his teaching career on the Wirral, firstly at Eastham Secondary School and then at Wirral High School, where he was head of House and Senior Teacher. He had a wonderful rapport with his students and gave many of them the chance to find direction in their lives and enhanced opportunities in their education through the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and sailing on the Tall Ships. Hundreds of his students achieved Gold Award in the D.O.E. and in 2004 he was rewarded for his commitment to his students when he received the M.B.E. from Her Majesty the Queen. Dilwyn never married but had many friends around the world, many of them dating back to his time in B.F.P.O. Schools in Germany in the late '60s. He will be very much missed by his family and friends. Funeral Service and Committal to be held at Hollinwood Crematorium, Roman Road, Oldham, OL8 3LU at 2.30 p.m. on Thursday March 26th. No flowers please but donations if desired to the Alzheimer's Society. All enquiries to H. Revell & Sons Ltd. Tel: 0161 338 2520.

I think about Mr Rogers a lot. He gave me a lot of confidence and ignited my love for the outdoors, which has made my life wonderful.

The rapport he had with students was fantastic. He was strict and direct but had a keen sense of fun.

I wish I could have appreciated him when I was younger as I do now.

From a proud sister

Dilwyn was 5 years older than me and I always looked up to him. Growing up with him as an older brother was never dull! As I sit here writing this my home is full of cards and messages from people I don't know who just wanted to record their admiration and affection for someone really unique. Thank you to all of you who sent them. They have meant such a lot in these sad days but most of all thank you to Dilwyn who has made life more colourful, more fun and more of challenge than if he had not been my brother. I will really miss you.
Love
Jennifer
