JackSMETHURSTof Deerplay Care Home, passed away peacefully in Royal Blackburn Hospital on Thursday, December 19, aged 95. Jack was born in Bury but soon after moved to Rossendale, where he attended Waterfoot Primary School. He attended Central Select School in Bacup, where he met Marian Grace Papworth, whom he married in 1945. They were married for 69 happy years and enjoyed many holidays in Spain, Malta and the Canary Islands, until Marian passed away in 2014. Jack survived his three younger siblings James, Joan and Rowland. Jack leaves his son Tony, and his wife Helen, and son Gary. He leaves two grandsons, Adam and Ben, of whom he was very proud. He also leaves Adam's partner Amy and Ben's wife Cathryn. Jack loved to spend time with his six great-grandchildren: Harlow; Charlie, Esme, Amelie, Molly and Sebastian. The funeral, led by Kathy Unsworth, took place at 10am on Saturday, January 4 at Burnley Crematorium. Funeral director: Dawn Winfield c/o Fred Hamer Funeral Services.
