In Memory of Stephen Smyth

It’s with a heavy heart that I pay tribute to my dear friend and shipmate, Stephen Smyth.

We served together in the Royal Navy aboard HMS Talent—twice. Those deployments forged a bond built on shared experiences, mutual respect, and a lot of laughter. Stephen was more than just a shipmate; he was a brilliant friend and an exceptional mentor. His calm presence, wise words, and ready humour made even the toughest days at sea easier to bear.

We shared great times—moments that I’ll always carry with me. What hurts most now is knowing we won’t be able to talk again or share another laugh. But I take comfort in the memories and in knowing that those who served alongside him were made better for it.

Your watch is done, Stephen. Rest easy, my friend.
Until we ship out again—fair winds and following seas.

A true gentleman in every way, it was a real pleasure to work with Stephen occasionally at HUTH, where he was a true asset and a kind and supportive colleague. Rest peacefully Stephen

So sad to hear of the passing of my pal Steve…he was my sparring partner as we lectured and debated many of the topics undertaken during our two years of study for an MBA at Hull University Business School…My thought are with his family and friends at this time …sadly missed but will never be forgotten…he was inspirational

Stephen was my positive role model during the early stages of my military career and helped shape me into the man I am today.

Courageous, witty and articulate he epitomised all of the core values and standards we should all strive to deliver and I will miss him dearly.

I met Steve several times at the protest sites around West Newton, passionate, kind, and would not take any nonsense.
Always greeted us with a smile when we travelled over.
My thoughts have been for Helen and family, Steve's friends and fellow campaigners.
Always in your debt, Frank Frack
