Peacefully in his sleep on 7th February, aged 77 years, Alun of Capel Annibynwyr, Aberdyfi.

Beloved husband of Maria, proud father of Emily, Carys and Seren, father-in-law of James, Robert and Gavin, stepfather of Lisa and the late Aaron, loving grandfather of Rosie, Victor, Betsan, Poppy, Monty, Elgan, Sylvia and Alexis and dear brother of Idwal.

Funeral on Saturday, 22nd February 2025. Public Service at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth at 11.30am.

Please wear dark attire, but not black.

Family flowers only.

Dear Maria

My wife Jenny and I send our condolences to you and to all Alun's family and friends at this sad time. We had the privilege of getting to know Alun in Cambridge when he and I were working towards our PhDs in the same department. We also had a lot of fun with Alun outside the university.

I had the privilege of rowing with Alun for City of Cambridge in the mid-70s and won my first senior race with him in 1973. He was a truly lovely man and will be sorely missed, especially his beautiful Welsh accent which he retained despite all the years he spent on the English side of the border!

I was a student at the RVC between 1990 and 1995. Alun taught us pig animal husbandry and nutrition. He was always very friendly and kind. I was lucky enough to be coached by him as part of the RVC boat club. As a very amateur crew, he helped us prepare for many races, and he even got us invited to be guests of Sidney Sussex college, Cambridge in the Fairbairns Cup. A top coach, with a lot of patience.
When I failed Animal Husbandry in my third year, Alun gave me his time and help in preparing for the resit exams. With his guidance I passed. A lovely bloke. Rest in peace Alun.
