StanleySTEPHENSON SMITHMR Stanley Stephenson Smith (Stan) died peacefully on Sunday, May 31 with his daughters by his side, aged 90. Loving husband to the late Norah, he was devoted dad to the late Stanley, June, Brian and Susan, cherished grandad to Barbara, Kevin, Suzi, Brian, Daniel and Sean, also a proud great-grandad to 11 great-grandchildren. The family would also like to thank Judy Whitehead for her continued support over the last five years, and Admiral Nurse Deborah Hutchinson. Stan served time in the Royal Navy before moving on to become a Fire Chief at The Blackburn Royal Ordnance Factory and this is where he worked up until retirement. Upon retiring Stan took up a position at St John’s Primary School as a caretaker to Keep himself busy. His jobs didn’t stop there, Stan took great pleasure in driving around in his car with his trailer attached in his 80s doing gardens for people who couldn’t manage to do it themselves. Stan was an active man who enjoyed walking; he was a member of Hyndburn Sports Centre where he went regularly with his daughter Susan up until the age of 89. Stan was a sociable, loving man with a great sense of humour, he loved his family as they did him. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him. A private family funeral service was held. Family flowers only please, but donations if desired in memory of Stan are being gratefully received on behalf of Pendleside Hospice c/o funeral director Champ Funeral Services, Bank House, Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors.
